Mad Sad Lady

Mad Sad Lady

Did it really start that way

Were you ever someone other

Or just what we saw today

Did you ever build on beaches

And paddle  in the sea

Run free in fields and forests

Falling wildly , grazing knees

Mad Sad Lady

Did you relish being a teen

Did you giggle with your girlfriends

Of unknown things quite obscene

Did you languish in the kissing

And the fondling  of your breasts

Did you bite your lip and look away

As his hand slid up your vest

Mad Sad Lady

What was your other life

Were you ever really wanted

Were you ever someone’s wife

Did you hoover in all corners

Was the dinner right on time

Did you chatter to the neighbours

White washing on the line

Mad Sad Lady

Did you see your child’s face

That tiny perfect oval

With your fingers did you trace

Did your whole soul swell with pleasure

Were bedtime stories wild and grand

Did that child feel at their safest

When holding on your hand

Mad Sad Lady

Have you ever wanted  more

Were you ever someone's lover

Were you ever someone's whore

Did you fuck with dark abandon

Or was the moaning just a front

Did you ever look him in the eye

As he tantalised your cunt

Mad Sad Lady

Did you ever do them wrong

Did you always have that feeling

That you never quite belonged

Have you loathed behind your laughter

Have you caused another harm

Have you plotted someone's downfall

Behind a smile of charm

Mad Sad Lady

Did you look back at those that stared

Did you hear the people’s laughter

At your clothes, your voice , your hair

Did you stop for one split second

Did you lose your inner voice

And was the world so dead against you

That it left you with no choice?
