Auschwitz

AUSCHWITZ

Auschwitz 11- Berkenhau was designated by Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler, The Third Reich's Minister of the Interior, as the place of the ''final solution of the Jewish question in Europe''. From early 1942 to late 1944 transport trains delivered Jews to the camps' gas chambers from all over German occupied Europe.

( WIKIPEDIA )

The supposed answer for those sacks of souls,

the non- beings

 scum

 A worthless race

Each one devoid

Of heart and face

No reprieve

From the daily horrors

The hourly grind

The terror of each minute

Each second

Broken bodies

Broken minds

In the barracks, prisoners slept cramped together with three prisoners per wooden bunk. Toilets in the barracks consisted of a bucket, which had usually overflowed by morning. In the morning, all prisoners would be assembled outside for roll call (Appell). Standing outside for hours at roll call, whether in intense heat or below freezing temperatures, was itself a torture

But did they ever sleep whilst  living

Was there a moment when they could remove themselves

Their memories and the fear

Of what had been

Of what was to be

Or did the stench and rot

The Did it not

Keep them ever wakeful

Always on guard

For tomorrow and what lay beyond

The German physicians who ran SS and Wehrmacht medical institutions, along with medical personnel at lower levels, participated actively in carrying out Nazi extermination plans. SS physicians assigned to the concentration camps, including Auschwitz, played a special role. They conducted criminal medical experiments on prisoners and committed other acts that violated medical ethics. Having furthered the extermination program in the concentration camps, they have gone down in history as medical criminals

Did the women scream

As they wrenched away their wombs

Ensuring no more of their kind would breed

How long did they take to die

For how long did they bleed

Did the twins that were ideal candidates

Feel their sibling’s pain

As they waited their turn

Heads and limbs hacked off children

Preserved for eternity

For all to see

And agree

That it was science

At Auschwitz there were seven buildings which were used as gas chambers. In addition two other sites were also used as gas chambers but only for a few gassing actions: the cellar block 11 in the Slammlager where the first test gassings were carried out in August 1941 and a delousing barrack at the Main Economic Area near the Slammlager, called Kanada 1, where 200 members of the Sonderkommando were killed on 23rd September 1944.

Zyklon B was the air they would breathe

Stacked high

Did fathers clamber over sons

Or push them up for freedom

Grasp blindly for the door

Sacrificing or sacrificial

Genocide at its’ finest hour

A pyramid

Of life

And then no more

So they still trundle in on coaches

These ones offering air con

And extra comfort

And refreshments ( obviously)

For Mary and Frank

Or Nancy and Hank

And these men will shake their heads

And these women will put their jackets round them

And shiver

And nod and maybe even cry a little

And occasionally look away

And back at the hotel

Will be relieved

And secure

That it would never happen today
